Thymosin Alpha-1
What is it?
Thymosin alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid peptide studied in immune-function research and clinical disease settings. The synthetic medicine name thymalfasin appears in the literature. It is distinct from thymosin beta-4 and from the thymic peptide mixture called Thymalin.
How it is studied
Research concerns regulation of immune-cell responses rather than a simple, universal “immune boost”. Immune activation can be beneficial or harmful depending on the disease and context, making clinical endpoints more informative than broad marketing descriptions.
What the evidence shows
The 2025 TESTS phase 3 randomised, placebo-controlled sepsis trial did not find a significant reduction in 28-day mortality. Earlier studies and other indications address different populations and questions. This result illustrates why plausible immune mechanisms do not guarantee clinical benefit.
Limitations & safety context
Sepsis findings cannot be converted into claims about infection prevention or wellness in healthy people. The attachment does not identify a licensed medicine, manufacturing specification or clinical-equivalent formulation. Evidence needs to match the exact indication and material.
