Neuropeptides
PT-141 / Bremelanotide
What is it?
PT-141 is a development name for bremelanotide, a synthetic melanocortin receptor agonist. It is a different molecule from Melanotan II despite their shared research lineage. A supplier PT-141 vial is not the same specification as a finished bremelanotide medicine.
How it is studied
Its activity involves central melanocortin pathways. The exact mechanism linking receptor activity to the clinical outcome is not fully established in the product information. It is not a testosterone replacement or a general performance-enhancing ingredient.
What the evidence shows
The official Vyleesi information describes treatment of acquired, generalised hypoactive sexual desire disorder in specified premenopausal women. The indication excludes several other causes and populations. Evidence for that defined medicine does not establish general sexual-performance benefits.
Limitations & safety context
Labelled concerns include transient blood-pressure increases, reduced heart rate, nausea and focal hyperpigmentation. Uncontrolled hypertension and known cardiovascular disease are important contraindications in the medicine label. The 10 mg research entry is not proven equivalent to Vyleesi.
