Growth-factor signalling
Tesamorelin
What is it?
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing factor. Its activity occurs upstream of growth hormone: it stimulates a hormonal pathway rather than supplying growth hormone directly. Downstream changes can include higher circulating IGF-1.
How it is studied
The pathway links pituitary growth-hormone release with IGF-1 signalling in other tissues. This explains why laboratory and clinical studies measure IGF-1, glucose regulation and body-composition outcomes. It does not mean any abdominal-fat claim applies to every population.
What the evidence shows
The official US product information describes a licensed tesamorelin medicine for reduction of excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV and lipodystrophy. That indication is specific. The medicine is not described as a general weight-loss treatment, and its evidence does not establish bodybuilding or anti-ageing benefits.
Limitations & safety context
Labelled concerns include elevated IGF-1, fluid retention, joint or nerve-compression symptoms and glucose intolerance. Malignancy history and pregnancy are among important clinical considerations. The supplier’s 5 mg and 10 mg research entries are not automatically the licensed medicine or its formulation.
