Metabolic signalling
Mazdutide
What is it?
Mazdutide is a peptide that activates GLP-1 and glucagon receptors. Its receptor pairing differs from tirzepatide, which combines GIP and GLP-1 activity. The glucagon component is a key reason mazdutide is studied as a separate compound rather than as another name for semaglutide.
How it is studied
The GLP-1 component influences food intake and glucose-dependent insulin signalling, while glucagon-receptor activity contributes a distinct metabolic signal. The net effect depends on the balance of these actions and must be assessed in clinical studies.
What the evidence shows
A 2025 phase 3 trial in Chinese adults with obesity or overweight compared mazdutide with placebo over 48 weeks. It evaluated body-weight change and weight-reduction response. Its population and study design are important when interpreting the findings; they do not describe every possible user or preparation.
Limitations & safety context
This reference discusses the published study rather than providing a current worldwide licensing summary. Gastrointestinal tolerability and cardiometabolic measures require attention in clinical research. A supplier vial has not been shown equivalent to the investigational product by the attachment.
