Neuropeptides
MT-2 / Melanotan II Acetate
What is it?
Melanotan II is a cyclic synthetic analogue in the melanocortin family. It is structurally different from Melanotan I and from bremelanotide. The attachment specifies an acetate form, but this is not enough to verify the complete material.
How it is studied
Melanocortin receptors have roles in pigmentation and central signalling. Early research therefore measured more than skin colour, including systemic effects. Broad receptor activity makes it inappropriate to describe MT-2 simply as a targeted tanning ingredient.
What the evidence shows
A small phase 1 pilot study investigated MT-2 in human volunteers. Further early research examined erectile responses in a small clinical experiment. These studies have limited size and scope and do not establish a routine cosmetic or wellness treatment.
Limitations & safety context
Early studies reported systemic effects such as nausea, yawning and spontaneous erections. A small trial cannot rule out uncommon or long-term harms. Neither the MT-1 medicine context nor bremelanotide’s evidence automatically applies to MT-2 supplier vials.
